INTRODUCTION OF THE H.P. STATE COMMISSION FOR WOMEN, SHIMLA-1, H.P.

Consequent upon enactment of National Commission for Women Act, 1990, the State Women Commissions were established throughout the country including the National Commission for Women (NCW).

Accordingly, the Government of Himachal Pradesh enacted an Act namely Himachal Pradesh State Commission for Women Act, 1996 and the office of the Commission was set up vide Notification No. WLF(@)-2/2018-11 dated 17th December, 1997. In the year 1997, the Commission was abolished by the State Government and later on, it was again established vide Notification No. WLF (2)- 2/88-11 dated 8th March, 1999. At present, the Commission consists of one Chairperson and three Members. Secretary (Welfare) and Director General of Police, Himachal Pradesh are ex-officio members of this Commission.

The Commission is assisted by one Member Secretary and subordinate staff and the Commission is functioning at the Ground and First floor of Himrus Building, Himland, Shimla-171001 (HP).
